We are pleased to report that transportation to Bau-Bau and the Wakatobi is becoming easier and more efficient all the time. We will continue to update this page as new options become available so please check regularly.

Getting to Bau-Bau, Buton Island

There are daily flights to Bau-Bau with Lion Air and Garuda. Flights are from Makassar Airport, and it is easy to connect daily with flights from Jakarta and Bali.

For the latest flight schedules into Bau-Bau see the following websites:

Be aware that the planes are small planes (72 seat) and therefore the free luggage allowance is only 10kgs per passenger on Lion Air and 20kgs on Garuda. Excess baggage can be purchased on Lion Air at a rate of Rp 25.000/kg if flying from Makassar.

Getting to Tomia Island, Wakatobi

The first step is to fly to Bau-Bau or Wangi-Wangi Island in the Wakatobi. There are currently daily flights into Wangi-Wangi Airport with Lion Air. Luggage allowance is 10kgs per passenger and excess baggage can be purchased for Rp 25.000/kg.

Getting to Tomia from Bau-Bau

Once in Bau-Bau you can reach Tomia by taking one of the overnight passenger boats. There are now five boats per week departing at approx 8 or 9pm and arriving in Tomia at approx 8am the following morning.

For the return journey from Tomia to Bau-Bau the passenger boat departs Tomia at approx 8am, and arrives in Bau-Bau at approx 8pm. The current boat schedule is:

Bau-Bau to Tomia, departure 8pm, arrival 8am the following day:

  • Monday
  • Tuesday
  • Wednesday
  • Thursday
  • Friday

 

Tomia to Bau-Bau, departure 8am, arrival approx 8 – 9 pm the same day:

  • Tuesday
  • Wednesday
  • Thursday
  • Saturday
  • Sunday

 

Getting to Tomia from Wangi-Wangi Island

If you fly to Wangi-Wangi Island, then you will need to spend one night in a hotel there, before continuing your journey to Tomia.

There are daily public boats from Wangi-Wangi to Tomia departing from Mola Harbour at approximately 9am, and arriving in Tomia at approximately 12noon.

The public boats from Tomia to Wanci depart daily from Tomia at approximately 8am, and arrive in Wanci at approximately 12 noon.

Getting to Hoga Island, Wakatobi

The first step is to fly to Bau-Bau or Wangi-Wangi Island in the Wakatobi. There are currently daily flights into Wangi-Wangi Airport with Lion Air. Luggage allowance is 10kgs per passenger and excess baggage can be purchased for Rp 25.000/kg

Bau-Bau to Hoga:
There is an overnight boat from Bau-Bau to Wanci which departs at 9pm every night, and arrives in Wanci at approximately 7am.

You can then take a public speed boat from Wanci to Kaledupa Island. These speed boats depart between 9am and 11am each day, and the journey takes approximately 2-4 hours.

We can arrange pick up and transfer from Kaledupa Island to Hoga Island. The journey takes approximately 15 mins in a small local fishing boat.

Wangi-Wangi to Hoga:
If you fly to Wangi-Wangi, you will need to spend one night here before continuing your journey to Hoga Island.

You can then take a public speed boat from Wanci to Kaledupa Island. These speed boats depart between 9am and 11am each day, and the journey takes approximately 2-4 hours.

We can arrange pick up and transfer from Kaledupa Island to Hoga Island. The journey takes approximately 15 mins in a small local fishing boat.
